To establish the concept of "safety for production, production must be safe," enhance battery enterprises' awareness of EU carbon tariffs and the latest battery regulations, support compliant export operations, and improve market competitiveness, the "Shenzhen Lithium Battery Safety Production and Overseas Expansion Training Forum" was successfully held on the afternoon of December 13, 2023, at the Industrial Exhibition Hall. Organized by the Shenzhen Battery Industry Association under the guidance of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the event brought together over a hundred representatives from industrial departments, the Shenzhen Battery Industry Association, and battery industry chain enterprises such as BTR, BYD, Sunwoda, Huawei, and Highsun to discuss safety, low-carbon practices, and high-quality overseas expansion for the battery industry.
In his opening remarks, Yi Sanping, Director of the Green Manufacturing and Materials Division of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, emphasized: "Shenzhen's battery industry boasts a solid foundation and significant scale advantages, making it a new driver of the city's foreign trade exports. With numerous lithium battery enterprises in Shenzhen, the industry bears major safety responsibilities. Companies must firmly uphold their primary responsibility for production safety to ensure healthy development and excellence. Additionally, the EU is one of the key markets for Shenzhen's lithium battery exports. The formal enactment of the 'EU Battery and Waste Battery Regulation' in August this year has introduced new requirements and challenges for battery exports. Inviting industry experts and enterprise representatives to explain policies and share experiences will help Shenzhen's battery companies better understand EU carbon tariffs and battery regulations, achieve compliant overseas expansion, and enhance market competitiveness."
He noted that Shenzhen's battery industry has broad prospects, serving as a critical pillar for the trillion-yuan sectors of new energy vehicles and energy storage. The Bureau has introduced a series of industrial support policies and hopes that local battery enterprises will continue to contribute to Shenzhen's industrial development, grow their roots in the city, and support Shenzhen's efforts to build a world-class next-generation automotive hub while sharing the benefits of industrial growth.
The forum invited industry experts and enterprise representatives from SGS, Sunwoda, Zhonghuan Ke'ang, Xiwicloud, and Everwin to share insights on topics such as European energy storage access policies, the EU's new battery regulations, battery passports, carbon footprints, quality lifecycle management, and overseas patents, fostering discussions on the safe and high-quality development of the battery industry.
Liu Xiu, Chief New Energy Expert at SGS Electronics and Electrical Division, introduced the access policies for energy storage products entering the EU market and provided a detailed explanation of the "EU Battery and Waste Battery Regulation," covering its basic information, background, scope, and manufacturer obligations.
The essence of a "battery passport" is a data management system for the battery's full lifecycle. Huang Jinjie, CEO of Shenzhen Dianlian Technology Co., Ltd., shared digital certificate solutions for complying with EU battery regulations based on their experience.
Han Yangguang, General Manager of Zhonghuan Ke'ang (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd., delivered an insightful presentation on strategies for addressing the carbon footprint of products exported to the EU and building a public service platform for carbon footprint management among SMEs.
Another critical aspect of the "battery passport" is full lifecycle quality management for batteries. Peng Shan, CTO of Xiwicloud (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., shared perspectives on industry development trends and solutions for full lifecycle quality traceability.
As more domestic enterprises expand into overseas markets, international patent applications have become a crucial topic. Zhao Dongming, Manager of the International Patent Department at Everwin Group, discussed intellectual property risks and prevention for "going global" enterprises, overseas layout strategies, and differences in patent judicial systems across countries.
Recently, the Central Economic Work Conference held in Beijing proposed accelerating the cultivation of new drivers for foreign trade and stabilizing the fundamentals of foreign trade and investment. The Association will continue to serve as a bridge between the government and enterprises, helping companies address challenges in overseas expansion, further amplifying the influence of outstanding Chinese enterprises abroad, and injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of the battery industry.
